Power transducer for a 10MW Elliott steam turbine generator
DOWNLOAD CASE STUDY (PDF)

The Challenge
A TCCS field engineer (Avanti Power Components’ parent company) was mid-startup after the turbine had just come out of a major overhaul when the power transducer on the generator began to fail, preventing the turbine from coming online. With tens of thousands of dollars on the line, the facility needed the turbine running again by any means necessary. It had no spare on the shelf, and the specific transducer model had a lead time of over a month.
The Solution & Results
Avanti Power Components had a similar-style transducer from the same manufacturer on our shelf in NY, but it needed specialized software and custom-made cables sourced from Italy before it could go out. Once our technician connected to the transducer’s controller, the interface was entirely in German. It shipped next-day air, and the turbine was back online that evening, potentially saving the facility months of downtime.
To overcome the language barrier, James had a close friend of his who was born and raised in Germany help him translate the software parameters into English, and it was successfully programmed to the site specifications within one day.
