Problem Solving When the OEM Doesn’t Even Want to Touch It
Lumber Mill, Northern CA
High Pressure V1 governor actuator on a GE Thermodyne 30 MW Steam Turbine Generator

The Challenge
The facility would periodically have to send out their extremely large MOOG electro-hydraulic actuators multiple times a year to get rebuilt after critically failing from a severe leak.
The utility plant spent thousands of dollars repairing them and stocking spares, but the leak persisted. Furthermore, after contacting the OEM of the cylinder, they informed us they did not want to touch it and were unwilling to sell us replacement parts.
The Solution & Results
We proposed they send us a broken unit. It was obvious where the leak was coming from, but the leak was the least of their issues. Within a month, we engineered a custom solution.
We didn’t just repair the leak; we brought the actuator up to brand-new condition using modern, readily available components to future-proof it. The original actuator was back in their hands within two months, successfully meeting their outage deadline window.
We not only repaired the leak, but also brought the actuator back to brand-new condition. By using modern, durable, and readily available components, we have future-proofed the unit for years to come.
