Emergency trip solenoid for a GE Frame 6 gas turbine

The Challenge
A GE Frame 6 gas turbine in Dover, Delaware failed a test of its turbine emergency trip solenoid. When de-energized, the hydraulic solenoid was failing to fully close, which meant it would maintain enough oil pressure to keep the turbine running during a potential emergency shut-down, exactly when it needs to shut down immediately. Left unresolved, this risked a catastrophic failure. The customer contacted Avanti Power Components to locate a replacement, but the lead time for a new solenoid was incredibly long and the price was astronomical.
The Solution & Results
We had the customer ship the failed solenoid to our repair facility and rebuilt it in-house.
We rebuilt it in-house for less than half the cost of a new one and cut the customer’s downtime from months to just a few days.
