The Challenge

This Brooklyn site is isolated from the power grid and relies heavily on its equipment running reliably. The facility had been seeing excess steam flying out of the steam chest while the turbine was running, and believed the steam seals were bad or installed incorrectly. The turbine had been overhauled very recently.

The Solution & Results

Through troubleshooting and examination, Avanti Power Components determined the air ejectors, not the steam seals, were to blame. The real challenge was finding the exact size and specification of air ejector for an obsolete 1960s Westinghouse steam turbine. We made a site visit and located air ejectors that fit and worked on the system.

Locating the right air ejectors fixed the leak and spared the facility the cost of disassembling the turbine to chase a problem that was never actually there.
