HP pneumatic valve actuator for a 5MW Elliott steam turbine generator
The Challenge
While a TCCS job (Avanti Power Components’ parent company) was underway, a field engineer performing HP valve calibration and testing discovered the Flowserve pneumatic actuator on the turbine had failed. The plant faced a dangerous condition, the turbine could roll off unexpectedly before startup, and had no spare on hand.
The Solution & Results
These are exactly the actuators Avanti Power Components keeps in stock and continually rebuilds. Within minutes, we boxed up a spare and shipped it overnight from NY. Because we had already calibrated and tested it in the shop before shipment, only minimal field calibration was needed. The turbine spun back up with no unexpected roll-offs.
Normally, a situation like this would leave plants down for weeks awaiting one to ship from the OEM.
